June + IBC + DIA + Bio International = Vacation

Written by
While reviewing my calendar the other day, I noticed three big shows in the month of June, which means lots of travel for me. Perhaps my family will enjoy the vacation from me. I know I will enjoy a vacation to Bethany Beach Delaware when I get back.

IBC
The first big show is IBC’s 8th International Single-Use Applications for Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing in Boston. Looking through the program agenda I noticed the chairperson’s name, Wolfgang Noe, Ph.D. Noe is on Life Science Leader magazine’s editorial advisory board. This combined with the variety of interesting speakers and topics gave me an idea. Why not do a single-use roundtable article for the July issue? I sent out a few emails to gauge some interest and hopefully will be able to get something together. Stay tuned.

DIA

The next show I plan to attend is DIA’s 47th Annual Meeting in Chicago. Ken Getz from Tufts is the chairman. There are a bunch of people I am hoping to meet at this show, including, Kevin Quinley, who has written a couple of articles for us. One topic which captured my attention appears under Professional Development and Training (track 15), “My Big Break: Stories from Top Pharmaceutical Executives.” I hope to attend this session and perhaps network with some of the speakers for a future article. Some people believe in catching a lucky break. I, on the other hand, believe people create their own luck through their actions and hard work. If you plan to attend the same session, be sure to introduce yourself.

Bio International

The last show I will be attending for the month is the Bio International Convention in Washington, DC. It claims to be the largest global event for the biotechnology industry. The show includes some names of people who frequent the news, Richard Clark, CEO Merck (NYSE: MRK), John Lechleiter, CEO Lilly (NYSE: LLY) and G. Steven Burrill. Of these three folks, only Burrill has been featured on the cover of Life Science Leader. I’ll be working on that. There are a bunch of super sessions I am looking forward to attending. Perhaps if I get a bunch of emails of people interested in putting together a foursome, I could convince my magazine to send me out a day early for the BIO Golf Outing to be held at the Mount Vernon Country Club. Just in case you misplaced it, I will include it in the blog for your convenience This email address is being protected from spambots.
