Steven Cutler, Group President of ICON discusses the launch of ICON's new acquisition of Firecrest at Partnerships in Clinical Trials 2012. Facing the continuing challenge of not only monitoring and auditing clinical research sites but also taking the time to thoroughly support sites in their training on protocols, the acquisition of Firecrest will allow ICON to better focus on the training of collecting data in a quality manner. The Firecrest software will allow ICON to train via an online system that trainss each site to truly understand the entire clinical research protocol for each trial including how the drug works and what steps need taken during patient enrollment and for each patient visit , helping each site improve their performance and patient recruitment.
Steven also highlights ICONIK, their new platform for viewing clinical trial data in real-time, reducing the cost of clinical trials.
ICON's announcements at Partnerships in Clinical Trials highlights the different ways they are strategically partnering with both sponsors as well as vendors.
Steven Cutler, Group President of ICON discusses their exciting new partnership with Roche at Partnerships In Clinical Trials 2012. Medical imaging has always been a strong department within ICON. ICON collects images in a variety of trials, particularly in the areas of oncology and cardiovascular trials. In their partnership with Roche, ICON hosts the database containing all of the images they collect for all of Roche's clinical trials. This allows Roche to view any of their images 24/7 via ICON's hosting cloud software - saving Roche the significant investment required for an imaging system and the time it would take to traditionally deliver images to the sponsor. ICON provides yet another example of how they are helping their partners deliver more drugs to market in a faster and more cost effective way.
John Blakely, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for ERT discusses the new trend in clinical research at Partnerships in Clinical Trials 2012 - the melding of objective and subjective data. Historically these two types of databases were performed separately by different vendors using different methodologies. Today's smarter technology allows Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) to cut costs and accelerate timelines for their sponsors by capturing objective and subjective data at the same time and store them in the same database.
Marcelo Piccirillo, Senior Clinical Research Physician for Chiltern, discusses new trends in gastrointestinal clinical development at Partnerships in Clinical Trials 2012. Current hot spots for clinical development in the field of GI include inflammatory bowl disease (such as Crohn's) and evacuation disorders (such as IBS). In an area that has not received much attention in the past decade - recent clinical research in these two areas has allowed new light to be shed on these disorders as well as the upcoming release of new drugs to provide relief to this patient population.
Paul Savuto, President and CFO, and Steven Karrupan, CEO, from Blinded Diagnostics discuss Point of Care Technology at Partnerships in Clinical Trials 2012. Point of care (or decentralized testing) offers the opportunity for sponsors and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) to perform clinical trials with testing results available in minutes rather than days. The data is available to be analyzed on site as opposed to having to ship to a central lab, cutting shipping costs. Point of care testing in clinical trials is also an excellent solution for patient enrollment and screening as well as blended studies and adaptive trials. Faster results means better opportunity for trend analysis. Point of care is also available in any location - from the isolation of a patient's home or a remote area to a large city.
