Healionics Corporation Ships First Commercial Product Featuring STAR Biomaterial Print

Healionics Corporation, a provider of tissue regeneration and device bio-integration solutions to healthcare manufacturers, today announced the sale and shipment of the first commercial product featuring Healionics' STAR biomaterial. The product, TR-ClarifEYE, an innovative veterinary glaucoma implant marketed by TR BioSurgical, LLC (TRBIO), is scheduled for limited market launch in April 2009.

TR-ClarifEYE is a unique veterinary glaucoma implant intended for primary glaucoma. TR-ClarifEYE is made from the STAR Biomaterial and is surgically implanted under the sclera. It is an angiogenic implant that restores aqueous outflow, reduces fibrosis and improves tissue integration.

Healionics’ proprietary STAR – Sphere Templated Angiogenic Regeneration – is a biomaterial scaffold designed to enhance bio-integration and promote healing of implanted medical devices. In addition to the veterinary ophthalmic market, Healionics currently has numerous research agreements in place evaluating STAR biomaterial in multiple human market applications including aesthetics, obesity management, diabetes care, advanced wound care, chronic pain management, end stage renal disease, and long-term infusion care.
