A Non-Dry Ice Active Container For Frozen Shipments

Cool Containers will be introducing their new PharmaPort ® -20ºC container, designed for pallet sized loads of frozen pharmaceuticals, at the IQPC Cold Chain Management Conference September 26-27, 2012 in Chicago.  The container incorporates the company’s proprietary Pro-Tectic ™  Temperature Storage Technology, can be recharged using standard AC electrical power, and requires no dry ice, PCMs or other consumables.

In 2011, Cool Containers successfully launched their first product, the PharmaPort 360, which maintains cargo temperature at a precise 5ºC.  This container has now been qualified and is in use by some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers for global shipments of valuable vaccines and biological medicines.  The new -20ºC version incorporates many of the same features of their original model, including the easy-to-recharge temperature storage, and remote monitoring systems.

“Many of the Pharma companies qualifying and using our PharmaPort 360 container for 5ºC shipments inquired about a lower temperature setting” explains Michal Rosenblum, Cool Containers’ Director of Marketing and Business Development.  “When we started looking at the market for this frozen temperature range, we found that dry ice-cooled systems were the only option in pallet sized active containers – and there is certainly a strong trend to eliminate dry ice in Pharma logistics.”
