Case Study: Removing Translation Bottlenecks With AI

Medable and Lionbridge collaborated to transform one of clinical trial operations’ most persistent bottlenecks—translations and language migration—by deploying proprietary AI tools to streamline global study builds. Traditionally, translation processes are manual, sequential, and resource-heavy, delaying studies. In this case study, the teams rebuilt an oncolytic immunotherapy trial across eight locales using Medable Studio, an AI-enhanced study build platform, and Lionbridge’s Aurora Clinical Outcomes, an AI-driven eCOA migration system.

The AI-enabled workflow replaced linear, language-by-language translation with parallel processing, automated localization, and built-in quality validation. Medable Studio cut screenshot review times by 55% and automation reduced back-and-forth communication by 54%, minimized human error, and consolidated operations from three teams on multiple systems to one or two teams on a single platform. This partnership enabled earlier trial launches, better resource allocation, and more agile collaboration, setting a new operational benchmark for global studies. The results demonstrate how AI can reimagine overlooked processes, accelerating readiness and enhancing competitive advantage for sponsors.
