Humacyte To Begin Testing Bioengineered Blood Vessel In Heart Bypass Surgery

Humacyte is preparing to evaluate its bioengineered coronary tissue-engineered vessel in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. The first-in-human Phase 2a trial will assess safety and efficacy in 10 adults, including blood flow through the implanted vessel after two months and longer-term outcomes over three years. Designed as an off-the-shelf alternative to patient-harvested saphenous veins, the vessel could address challenges such as limited vein availability, poor graft quality and complications from vein harvesting.
