When I was 17 years old, I moved from my home country, Colombia, to the United States to attend Texas A&M University. I had no friends or family coming with me, but I pushed past the anxiety that accompanies such a major life change because I understood that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I wouldn’t let that pass me by. I had a budding passion for medicine and engineering, and I knew I could combine the two by pursuing biomedical engineering.
