My first MBA class in the early 1990s was financial accounting, where we learned all about the time value of money (TVM) and financial accounting’s #1 rule, “Collect early, pay late.” But it is also where I became fascinated with successful business turnarounds. Part of it was driven by the fact that GE Transportation still had its global headquarters in town. And as we had a number of GE “up and comers” in the program, we would often discuss Jack Welch’s approach as CEO in turning GE around. But there were numerous corporate turnaround case studies we dug into.
