$1.5M Grant Expands Biotech Training Capacity At Johnston Community College

A $1.5 million Golden LEAF Foundation grant will help expand and modernize Johnston Community College’s Workforce Development Center in Clayton, adding an estimated 12,000 square feet and significantly increasing biotech training capacity. The project is expected to serve 750 additional learners each year through programs focused on GMP, quality systems, aseptic processing, fill-finish operations, automation, robotics, validation, regulatory compliance and data integrity. Built on a public-private partnership among Johnston County economic development leaders, JCC and major employers such as Novo Nordisk and Grifols, the center is designed to keep training closely aligned with real workforce needs.

As biopharma, gene therapy and advanced manufacturing continue to grow across the region, the expansion strengthens a critical talent pipeline for North Carolina’s life sciences sector.
