In my work with leaders, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, I have noticed a fixation on the mechanics and metrics of business. “I want our staff to strengthen their communications skills.” “I want us to work more closely as a team.” But focusing on mechanics, metrics, and work is not what’s needed at this time. They need compassion, empathy, support, encouragement, and love. Yes, that last word is crucial if we want to inspire our employees.
