Having been an inventor and entrepreneur since the 1970s, I’ve experienced my fair share of failures. Before the development of my first medical innovation, the implantable cardioverter defibrillator, I had started two companies that failed. With every success I’ve seen, there have been countless missteps along the way. I often tell aspiring entrepreneurs that “in the pursuit of disruptive innovation, failure is a constant companion and success only an occasional visitor.”
