It was 2004 when Laura Niklason, M.D., Ph.D., cofounded Humacyte, a regenerative medicine company featured in this issue. At the time, she was a professor at Duke University. And while her fellow cofounders left academia to work full-time to get the company started in NC, Niklason instead opted to take a full-time position as a professor at Yale University. Although the entrepreneur was actively involved in Humacyte since its founding, it wasn’t until November 2020 that she took on her first C-level role within the company (i.e., CEO).
