A decade ago, I received the piece of advice that not only changed my career, but it also transformed the way I saw myself. As a director working in the commercial division at my old company, Johnson & Johnson, I was keen to move up to vice president. But I was surprised when a male mentor suggested I take a leadership role in the corporate venture group. I immediately thought of all the reasons I was unqualified to take a job working on an artificial kidney project with MIT scientists.
