The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an umbrella organisation of 264 national diabetes associations in 163 countries and territories. Its mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and prevent diabetes in those at risk. The Federation has been leading the global diabetes community since 1950. It brings the global diabetes community together in one place to further IDF's mission to improve the lives of people with diabetes and prevent diabetes in those at risk. From the first IDF congress in 1952, held in Leiden, the Netherlands, to the most recent in Bangkok in 2025, the number of participants has grown to reach over 7000 delegates from 170 countries. At the IDF Congress new research becomes shared knowledge, shared knowledge becomes action, and action becomes the foundation for the future work of the Federation. - Researchers presenting the latest evidence - Clinicians and educators sharing what works in practice - Industry partners showcasing the latest innovations in diabetes technology and treatment. - Policymakers shaping the response. - People living with diabetes ensuring every conversation stays grounded in lived experience. The IDF Congress is where the Federation comes to life, providing the opportunity for our member associations across more than 160 countries and territories to connect face-to-face, exchange what's working in their communities, and strengthen the network that makes IDF a genuine global federation. It is where flagship IDF initiatives reach their widest audience, and where new commitments, partnerships and declarations are launched onto the world stage. Education improves outcomes The IDF congress provides opportunities for healthcare professionals to strengthen their knowledge, learn from international experts, and take new insights back to their communities and clinical practice. Accelerating research By providing a global platform to present and discuss new evidence, emerging science and innovation, the congress helps connect researchers and healthcare professionals, foster collaboration and translate scientific advances into new treatments and care pathways for people living with diabetes. Quality diabetes care worldwide By bringing together perspectives from across disciplines and countries, including in particular those of people with lived experience of diabetes, the congress supports the exchange of approaches and best practices that can strengthen diabetes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management and contribute to more equitable access to quality care.
