The Fourth of July is a day for celebration and reflection. I celebrate the foresight of the Founding Fathers and express gratitude to those who bestowed upon us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I salute the valor of those who went to war to protect these freedoms we hold dear. America is an idea conceived by many to serve all. Today I reflect on how well the government of the people is doing “for the people,” and if our policies adequately promote good health and secure well-being, both determinants of happiness.
