Civica Takes On Insulin Market, Opens Manufacturing Facility

Ned McCoy, president and CEO at Civica Rx, joined the nonprofit generics company as chief business development officer when it launched in 2018. By May 2021, he’d added chief operating officer to his title, and was promoted to his current role in June of 2022. The move to Civica has been an ongoing coda to McCoy’s 30-plus years at Abbott, where he reached the position of senior director, IP strategy and licensing, before retiring from the company in 2018. McCoy’s experience in business development at Abbott was fruitful in Civica’s early days, when the company needed to launch generic drugs quickly to prove the model could work, which meant forging lots of partnerships.
