I know we are all still enjoying the Summer and saying the word, “Fall” or “Autumn” might be considered blasphemy. But this Fall, there are a variety of events you should be marking in your calendar and planning on attending. Some of these will be familiar to you. However, there are some new events of which you might not be aware. I thought I should give you heads up on both, so you can decide which might be a good fit for you. Below are two lists.

In the spirit of the end to the NFL lockout and fans of fantasy football, I thought it appropriate to label the first as “veteran conferences.” These are the ones with some history behind them. The second list I am calling “top draft picks.” I was tempted to call them rookies. But these conferences are not put on by rookie organizers, so the term didn’t seem appropriate. For your convenience I have included links to both.

Veteran Conferences

  1. IQPC’s 9th Cold Chain & Temperature Management Global Forum, September 26 – 29 in Philadelphia, PA. This is the largest, most recognized conference for understanding today’s practices, technology and business solutions for temperature control logistics, supply and packaging.
  2. PACK EXPO 2011, September 26 – 28 in Las Vegas, NV. This is North America’s largest packaging and processing show. No wonder General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) is serving as the keynote presenter.
  3. 2011 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, October 23 - 27 in Washington DC. Now in its 25th year, the goal of this year’s meeting is to reveal what the future holds for the next 25 years in the pharmaceutical sciences. At this show, Life Science Leader magazine will be revealing the CMO leadership awards, based on the research data of Nice Insights.

Top Draft Pick Conferences

  1. 2nd Annual Executing Global Clinical Trials, Sept 14 - 16, Philadelphia, PA. The focus of this conference is on how to globalize your study for clinical success.
  2. Disruptive Innovations in Clinical Trials, Sept 15 – 16, 2011, Philadelphia, PA. Case studies from leaders revolutionizing clinical development will be presented.
  3. USP’s Science & Standards Symposium on Biologics & Biotechnology, October 3 – 6, Seattle, WA. This event will bring together and international panel of experts to speak on regulatory challenges across the globe associated with the development of regulations.
  4. Partnership Opportunities in Drug Delivery, October 4 – 5, Boston, MA. This is a strategic level event on emerging and enabling technologies.

None of the “top draft pick” conferences overlap with the veteran shows. This is not by accident, but a testament to smart planning by conference organizers. The Conference Forum has a workshop and two overlapping conferences, all in the same city - just in case you found a few topics of interest between the three events. No additional travel necessary to attend part of one and then part of another, as all three of the events are being held at the same facility - Loews Philadelphia Hotel. If you are aware of some life science industry conferences worth scouting, drop me an email with the information to: rob.wright@lifescienceconnect.com. Perhaps there are other top draft pick conferences I will need to consider attending in the future.
