For many pharma companies, creating unique cultures that motivate their inherently diverse teams for the long haul to FDA approval is the secret to recruitment and retention in an industry where competition for highly skilled workers is fierce. It is also the key to achieving high performance and employee satisfaction.

"We are in a war for talent in the biopharma space. People have multiple options. A unique culture offers a competitive advantage,” says Flexion Therapeutics CEO Mike Clayman, M.D. Pharma leaders agree that culture has to be something that a company focuses on from the beginning, views as dynamic as it grows, and changes as needed. “This is not a 9-to-5 industry,” Clayman says.
