New companies with new science may focus too broadly, sacrificing their core purpose for an unwieldly array of ambitious research targets. When Scott Braunstein, MD, moved from his position as chairman of the board and interim CEO to become permanent CEO of Marinus Pharmaceuticals in August 2019, he had already concluded an overbroad focus was holding the company back.
