The Value Of First-Hand Experience

I once had a manager who stated, “Tell me, I’ll forget. Show me, I’ll remember. Involve me, I’ll understand.” The saying is an ancient proverb about the process of learning. Since the “involve me” portion typically facilitates a much deeper understanding, perhaps that’s why employers emphasize hiring college graduates who have completed internships, as they have gained the benefit of firsthand experience via immersive learning.
