Brand Strength And The Contract Manufacturing Competitive Landscape

In a recent qualitative research project, ISR asked interviewees about their preferred category of CMO for a certain type of outsourced manufacturing work — full-service CDMOs with end-to-end capabilities or specialty contract manufacturers with expertise in particular areas of need. As the data often shows, research participants were split and relayed good reasons for their preferences in working with full-service suppliers and in working with specialty suppliers. And, of course, there was a group who said they prefer working with both specialized and full-service suppliers in tandem, as this presents the possibility of accessing expertise from specialty manufacturers while gaining efficiencies and reducing hand-offs through use of full-service manufacturers.
